Serving Castlegregory since the 1950’s

Tucked away in the heart of Castlegregory village, just a five minute stroll from the beach, Fitzgerald's has long been a welcoming haven for locals and visitors alike. What may look like an unassuming village pub from the outside holds decades of laughter, community, and family spirit within its walls.

MEET THE FITZGERALDS’

Fitzgerald’s Pub 1956

The story began when Thomas and Betty Fitzgerald took over the premises in the mid 1950's. Together, they built a beloved spot where neighbours gathered, friends became family, and no one ever left a stranger.  After Thomas' sudden passing, Betty - a powerhouse of a woman - continued to run the pub while raising their four children, who were still in college and school at the time.

Many locals still remember the early days fondly - the little corner shop attached to the bar that sold milk, penny sweets, and, of course, the famous Fitzgerald's ice cream!  It was a place where small moments turned into cherished memories.

When Betty eventually handed over the reins, her son Maurice and his wife Dorren carried the family torch, growing Fitzgerald's into a thriving, welcoming hub to all.  He expanded the business to include a hostel, inviting travellers from all corners of the world to experience a slice of Castlegregory's charm and the warmth of Fitzgerald hospitality.

Over time, the old shop transformed into Moe's Cafe, and from there, into our pub kitchen, now serving hearty, delicious food for most of the year - the kind that pairs perfectly with a pint and good company.

Today, Fitzgerald's continues to evolve while staying true to its roots.  With an on-site off license, a spacious beer garden, and live gigs all summer long, it remains a gathering place where generations meet, music flows, and stories are shared.

Now proudly passed down to Maurice James Fitzgerald & his wife Niamh , the next generation is keeping the spirit of the Fitzgerald family alive - honoring the past while looking forward to the future. Because at Fitzgerald's it's always been about more than just a pint - it's about people, place, and a legacy of welcome that lives on.
